Pre - Employment Checks

To protect Prudent Health Service members and the public, especially the frail, elderly and sick, it is recommended that all staff have the following up to date immunisation: Hepatitis B, Rubella, Varicella and Tuberculosis.

More detailed information is given below:

Hepatitis B: Required for all staff – If you have not been vaccinated for Hepatitis B, you should contact your GP or an Occupational Health Centre to arrange a course of 3 injections, followed by a blood test. You do not need to complete your course of injections before starting work. When you get your blood test results showing adequate (titre) levels of immunisation please provide us with a copy. In accordance with Department of Health guidelines, no Agency staff who may be required to undertake ‘exposure prone procedures’ will be accepted by Hospitals and NHS Trusts unless they have satisfactory evidence of their Hepatitis status. If you are already covered, please bring evidence to your interview.

Rubella: In the UK, most people are vaccinated for Rubella (part of the triple MMR vaccine) as a young child. Vaccination is recommended for all staff.

Varicella: If you have had either chicken pox or shingles, no further action is required. If not, you can get a 2 part vaccine which is recommended for all staff.

Tuberculosis: In the UK most people are vaccinated (BCG) whilst at school. Vaccination is recommended for all staff.

As an agency worker on a contract for services, you will have to meet the full cost of any vaccine, letters, blood tests or screening. However, if your GP is unwilling or unable to assist you, there are many Occupational Health Centres who can provide the service.
